Ed Grogg

Ed Grogg is the Founder of Carmel, Indiana-based Ellipsis Ventures, LLC. Ellipsis Ventures is an investment company specializing in healthcare real estate and healthcare technology companies that are focused on differentiating themselves within their respective markets.

Prior to Ellipsis, Ed was the President/Principal of Carmel-based Mainstreet Property Group, the largest developer of Next Generation™ Skilled Nursing & Short Term Rehabilitation properties in North America. During his seven-year tenure at Mainstreet, the company grew from ~$20 million in assets to ~$1 billion in assets. Also during this period, the company launched a successful IPO on the Toronto Stock Exchange under HealthLeaseProperties REIT on June 20, 2012. Ed joined Mainstreet in May 2007 as a partner and sold his interests in June 2014. In his 25 years prior to Mainstreet, Ed held a series of successful ownership, board of director level, senior management, leadership, business development, and operational roles in health care.

Ed is a 1982 graduate of Indiana University. He is currently a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis and is active in Christian Business Men’s Connection, as well as several other nonprofit organizations. He resides in Carmel, Indiana, where he is the proud father to four daughters and the proud grandfather to his four grandchildren.

Adlai Chester

Adlai has 15 years of finance, real estate, investment, development, and capital markets experience. He began his career in public accounting as an auditor. He then left public accounting and served as the Chief Financial Officer for a telecommunications company, where he was instrumental in the sale of one of its most profitable divisions to Comcast.

Following the sale to Comcast, Adlai became the CFO of Mainstreet, where he led the effort to take a portfolio of real estate public in 2012 (HealthLeaseProperties REIT). Over a two-year period, the portfolio grew from $250 million in assets to approximately $1 billion. He negotiated the sale of the portfolio in 2014 in a $2.3 billion transaction that included funding for future development. Adlai subsequently launched a second public real estate portfolio in 2016 as the CEO of Mainstreet Health Investments(HLP.UN).

Adlai was named to the “Forty Under 40” class by the Indianapolis Business Journal in 2015 and the CFO of the year in 2014. Adlai currently serves as the Executive in Resident in the accounting department at his alma mater, Ball StateUniversity.He resides in Muncie, Indiana with his wife and six children. Doug Pedersen

Senior Vice President, Real Estate Development

Doug Pedersen has more than 23 years of experience in real estate development, specializing in site selection, real estate negotiations, due diligence, entitlements, and managing site and building design/construction. He most recently served as the Vice President of Development for Mainstreet Property Group, where he developed many healthcare facilities nationwide. Prior to Mainstreet, he was a Vice President for JP Morgan Chase Real Estate West Region. His career experience also includes a tenure at Kite Realty Group (KRG) for more than seven years, where he served as a Vice President managing the development of a wide variety of ground-up projects, ranging from single tenant retail to large mixed-use developments. Prior to this experience, Doug worked from the Chicago market for eight years in national retail and mixed-use real estate development consulting.

Doug also co-managed development for the Alexander Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Doug earned a B.S. from Ball State University and a Master’s Degree from Ball State University’s College of Architecture and Planning. Doug resides in Carmel, Indiana with his wife and three sons.

Mike Mattis

Mike Mattis brings more than 20 years of healthcare experience to the Ellipsis team. Mike started his career in 1995 with a quick rise through the industry. He has specialized in sales, marketing, and business development, working with executive and thought leaders throughout the healthcare space. Mike brings a vast knowledge in Hospital Alignment Strategies and National Healthcare Law, which guide our healthcare partners in development decisions. Mike has most recently worked as the Director of Business Development for Mainstreet, a national developer of Skilled Nursing Facilities and hc1—a highly regarded Healthcare Relationship Management platform.

With this varied experience, Mike has a comprehensive understanding of development processes within the healthcare industry, meaning project management comes naturally to him. From initial market analysis throughout site development, Mike aids the Ellipsis team with his diverse expertise and specialized industry knowledge.

Mike is a former collegiate hockey player, who earned his Bachelor of Arts in finance from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. Mike lives in Carmel, Indiana with his wife and two daughters.

Kyle Jarrett

Senior Vice President, Operations

Kyle has 10 years of operation management, real estate development, and investment experience. Kyle began his career at Goldman Sachs in Chicago. His first role involved clearing operations for the CME and CBOT exchanges serving institutional clients. Kyle’s next venture with the firm serviced wealth management clients in the alternative investment space. After leaving Goldman, Kyle began a market assessment and feasibility role at Mainstreet before moving into a Development Manager role. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Investments for Ellipsis Ventures, focusing on real estate and healthcare technologies.

Kyle earned his B.A. from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, majoring in Real Estate Finance and Operations Management. He attends Northview Church–Westfield Campus and volunteers at a local food pantry, Open Doors of Washington Township. Kyle cherishes time with his wife, Jessica, and two beautiful children, Jackson and Vivian.
